This month’s theme at Tweetspeak and Every Day Poems is Flow (as in, being in creative flow). Here’s a fun way to get into the theme, along with a sample poem from Beyond the Glass.
Prompt: Entering Creative Flow
Write a poem that does one of these…
• uses structure as a way to demonstrate creative flow. You could do this visually, or you could try putting the creative flow into the tone, rhythm, or organization of your words. Try some experiments. Maybe freewrite.
• offers images that carry us along on dreamy, creative wings. Sure, you can be surreal.
• talks about the state of being in creative flow
• use a process like constructing found poems, which relies on creative flow in a different way from other poetry writing
Sample Poem
Our sample poem is from Beyond the Glass. It is a found poem.
Lessons in Glass
Easy to see right through
you may live your whole life not knowing
you’ve only skimmed the surface
commonly used melted down
the sand loses—
somewhere in between
coupled randomness
