A Story Quote to Inspire You
“A colonial mansion, a hereditary estate,
I would say a haunted house...”
—Charlotte Perkins Gilman
Inspiration Prompt 2
The Yellow Wall-Paper story is set in a house that appears to be grand, though that grandeur has been slipping away throughout years of abandonment.
Yet there is nothing like a grand old house falling into disrepair, to stir the mind’s imagination.
Imagine yourself slipping unnoticed into a grand old house that no one lives in anymore. Write a story or a poem about how you enter, or what you find there, or the people you think may have lived there (or who might haunt it still). Try to be specific about what you see, hear, touch, taste, or smell.
The 5 inspiration prompts in this mini-series are based on The Yellow Wall-Paper: A Graphic Novel, illustrated by Sara Barkat.
We hope these prompts inspire you with imaginative ideas for stories or poems!
